Hi, neat community...

I'm in a division of a company, and I'm trying to link to headquarters, but they don't have a scorecard. What should I do? Is it necessary for headquarters to have a scorecard?

I have worked with lot's of business units and even support organizations facing the same challenge. They have thier strategy and their scorecard but their "parent" does not. I find that it is almost always valuable to find a way to demonstrate alignment with corporate or whatever your higher level organizaiton is. There are several ways to do this:

create a "cross walk" between the corporate strategy and your BSC
create a corporate BSC inferred from the published strategy
persuade coporate to build a strategy map and BSC

Should you offer your Board of directors a scorecard? Should they just have the same scorecard as the one the enterprise is using?

I think a board of directors needs a BSC, but one that is slightly different from an enterprise scorecard. The board should be focused only on the outcomes, so maybe they should just have the top half of a scorecard and no be mired in the internal processes.

My division created a scorecard, and the headquarters did not have a scorecard. Our division is located in a different city, so there was no pressure to link back to corporate. We actually utilize the scorecard pretty well with little interferance.
