ClearPoint Strategy User, Citi Performing Arts Center, Inducted into Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame
Boston, MA (PRWEB) November 15, 2011
A ClearPoint Strategy user, Citi Performing Arts Center, has been inducted into the Palladium Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame for Executing Strategy. The induction took place on Wednesday, November 9, at a formal ceremony in San Diego, CA.
The Hall of Fame honors those organizations that have achieved an execution premium--extraordinary performance results--through the use of the Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard, the world's preeminent strategic planning and performance management framework. Citi Performing Arts Center was inducted into the Hall of Fame because it successfully implemented a strategic plan that had a positive impact on the surrounding community.
In 2005, Boston's Wang Center for the Performing Arts (now Citi Performing Arts Center) started a strategic planning process. Center leadership knew that the successful business model of year-long blockbuster Broadway runs had long disappeared, and so had the profits that supported the center's nonprofit programs and activities.
Led by a core group of 15 board members, the center adopted a bold and exciting new vision that focused on broad-based popular arts and entertainment and highlighted a new city-wide approach to arts education. The desired change was "from just a physical space to a true nexus of arts performance and arts education," according to board meeting minutes from 2006.
For the new vision and strategy to be successful, it was critical to improve alignment between the board, staff, and volunteers, including creating a smaller, more engaged governance structure. To improve data-driven communication, Citi Performing Arts Center began holding regular board meetings six times a year, with 90 percent attendance or better. Each meeting is organized with a formal agenda focused on top-level issues, and meeting materials that are sent electronically in advance. Additionally, each committee has adopted a quantifiable strategic measure of success that is reported quarterly to the entire board.
To support this process, Citi Performing Arts Center selected ClearPoint Strategy Balanced Scorecard Software, a web-based strategy and performance management tool. ClearPoint helps organizations clearly define strategic objectives, track key measures of success, and monitor ongoing initiatives as well.
According to Sue Dahling Sullivan, Citi Performing Arts Center's Chief of Staff/Chief Strategic Officer, ClearPoint "has given the organization great focus and paid off with some important measurable successes--which, through Clearpoint, we can easily illustrate and share with staff, board, and even prospective funders on a regular basis."
